If you’re a sushi enthusiast like me, you’ll know that Japan is a paradise for sushi lovers. Whenever I came back from Canada, first thing I wanted to have was Sushi and last thing I wanted to have before going back was of course Sushi too. For Japanese, sushi is often eaten to celebrate special occasions, but you also want to eat without any special occasions too!;) Here is my favorite sushi restaurant called Nagoyakatei.

What is nagoyakatei?

Nagoyakatei (なごやか亭) is a popular chain of conveyor belt sushi restaurants in Japan, particularly famous in Hokkaido. It is known for fresh, lively gourmet sushi restaurant with welcoming hospitality. Not only sushi, but they also offer deep fried chicken called zangi which is specialty from Hokkaido and many more appetizers you want to try!

The Conveyor Belt Experience

Walking into conveyor belt sushi restaurant, you are immediately greeted by the sight of a rotating conveyor belt laden with an array of colorful sushi plates. The concept is simple yet captivating: you pick the plates that catch your eye as they pass by your table. Each plate is color-coded to indicate its price, making it easy to keep track of your spending.

Usually they have the seasonal sushi displayed. They are written in Japanese, but perhaps you can try using a translator;)

Freshness and Variety

One of the highlights is the freshness of its sushi. Hokkaido is renowned for its seafood, and the restaurant takes full advantage of this, offering an impressive selection of fresh fish and shellfish. From classic options like tuna and salmon to more adventurous choices like sea urchin and scallop, there’s something for everyone even kids too!

Here is “Kobore Ikura” which is overflow salmon roe! So lively!!

Ordering Custom Sushi

While the conveyor belt provides plenty of options, the restaurant also allows you to order custom sushi from the menu. This is particularly useful if you have a specific craving or want to try something that hasn’t appeared on the belt. The chefs prepare your order on the spot, ensuring maximum freshness.

The Ambiance

The atmosphere is lively and welcoming. The staff is friendly and attentive, always ready to assist you with any questions or special requests. The restaurant is clean and well-maintained, providing a comfortable dining environment. You can change baby’s diaper in the bathroom as well!

A Culinary Adventure

Dining at Nagoyakatei is more than just a meal; it’s a culinary adventure. The joy of picking sushi off the conveyor belt, the thrill of trying new and exotic flavors, and the satisfaction of enjoying high-quality sushi all come together to create an unforgettable experience.

Be prepared to wait during busy times. Reservations are not accepted, but once you arrive at the restaurant, you can check in using the Epark system. You can choose between a booth or a counter seat.

Here is how the bill is calculated. It is based on the number and grade of plates you have eaten. We call it Oaiso(check).

If you find yourself in Hokkaido, a visit to Nagoyakatei is a must. Whether you’re a sushi connoisseur or a curious traveler, this conveyor belt sushi restaurant promises a delightful and delicious dining experience for the whole family. Fresh ingredients, a wide variety, and a fun dining concept make Nagoyakatei a standout choice for sushi lovers.
